"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
-- Genesis 1:1 --

God was there when time as we know it began – in the beginning. Without God, we would not exist. But we do exist only because God, in the beginning, created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them (Gen. 1:1–31).
Who created God?
There are those who believe that God didn’t always exist. According to Mormonism He is the offspring of a God who existed before Him, and this God was the offspring of a God who existed before Him, and so on and so forth. This false belief is not based on Scripture but only in the depraved minds of those who reject the one and only true God of the Bible.
No one created God.
He has always existed and will always exist.
Isaiah 43:10 – “You are My witnesses,” declares the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, So that you may know and believe Me And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me.”
Psalm 90:2 – “Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
These two passages only have one very clear literal interpretation: there is only one God who exists “from everlasting to everlasting.” No gods existed before Him and no gods will exist after Him. Those who twist Scripture to fit their false doctrines would point to 1 Corinthians 8:5 – “there are many gods and many lords.” They fail to mention the previous verse – “there is no God but one” – and the verse that follows – “yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.” It is so easy to be persuaded by the cults when you don’t take time to study the Bible!
The Bible says, “No one has seen God at any time” (John 1:18; 1 John 4:12). How do you know God exists if no one has ever seen Him? The answer is pretty straight forward – God “possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see” (1 Tim. 6:16). Moses asked God to “show me Your glory!” The LORD responded, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” (Exod. 33:18–20). No living person, except Christ Jesus, has ever seen the full glory of God.
God is and He may be known.
Just because no one has seen God doesn’t mean He does not exist. He reveals His glory in the heavens (Ps. 19:1–6). His “invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen” in His creation (Romans 1:20).
God “spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways” (Hebrews 1:1). The LORD led the Israelites in a “pillar of cloud” by day and a “pillar of fire” by night after they were let go by Pharoah (Exod. 13:17–22; Ps. 78:14). The “glory of the LORD” filled the tabernacle (Exod. 40:34–35; 2 Chron. 5:14; 7:2; Ezek. 44:4). He manifested Himself as “the angel of the LORD” to Moses “in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush” (Exod. 3:2–6). He appeared as a man (the preincarnate Christ) to Abraham (Gen. 12:1–2, 7; 17:1), Isaac (Gen. 26:2, 24), Jacob (Gen. 32:24–25, 30), Joshua (Josh. 5:13–15), Gideon (Judg. 6:11–13,19–23), and Ezekiel (Eze. 43:4–7). He is the fourth man who protected Daniel’s three friends while they were tied up in a blazing furnace (Dan. 3:23–25, 28). “The word of the LORD” was imparted to the fathers and the prophets (Gen. 15:1; Num. 3:16; 1 Sam. 15:10; Isa. 1:10; Jer. 2:1).
Jesus is the one and only God.
In these last days God “has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” (Heb. 1:2). Jesus, the Son of God, is the Word who is God and was with God in the beginning (Gen. 1:1; John 1:1–2). Prior to His incarnation, Jesus “existed in the form of God” (Phil. 2:6). He became flesh (John 1:14; 1 John 4:2) and is fully human and fully God – “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form” (Col. 2:9). Jesus is the “radiance of His (Gods) glory and the exact representation of His nature and upholds all things by the word of His power” (Heb. 1:3). Where we are created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27), Jesus is “the image of the invisible God” (2 Cor. 4:4; Col. 1:15) and is one in essence and being with the Father (Deut. 6:4; John 10:30; 17:21–22). “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him” (Col. 1:16).
Although “no one has seen God at any time,” Jesus “has explained Him” (John 1:18). The Greek rendering of explained is exēgeomai (exegesis) which means to tell fully, provide detailed information, to make fully known. Thus, Jesus provided detailed information about God in order to make Him fully known to the world.
Jesus is our Savior.
I previously mentioned Isaiah 43:10 – there is only one eternal God; no other god existed before Him and none will exist after Him. The next verse affirms, “I, even I, am the Lord, And there is no savior besides Me.” This is further accentuated in Isaiah 45:21 – “And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; There is none except Me.” The only eternal God is also the only eternal Savior. Jesus is “the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body” (Eph. 5:23). “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Phil. 3:20). We are “looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus” (Titus 2:13). “We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world” (1 John 4:14).
The one and only God and Savior stepped out of eternity and took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. “He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:8). He “bore our sins in His body” (1 Peter 2:24) while hanging on the cross and purchased sinners “with His own blood” (Acts 20:28; Rev. 5:9). He died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead on the third day (1 Cor. 15:3–4). Jesus ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9–11) and is seated at the right hand of God (Col. 3:9; Heb. 10:12) where He intercedes for us (Romans 8:34). He is the only mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus is “the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father” except through Him (John 14:6).
Jesus is our Lord.
Not only is Jesus Christ our God and Savior, He is also our Lord. The Greek rendering of Lord is kyrios which is the Greek translation of the Hebrew noun ʾādôn (lord, master) and refers to a master over a slave (Matt. 10:24; Eph. 6:5) or the authority that a husband has over his wife (1 Pet. 3:6). Kyrios is also the Greek translation of the proper and divine name of God, YHWH (Jehovah). The association of kyrios with the risen and exalted Jesus is an early Christian confession that acknowledges the superiority of Jesus over all things (Rom. 10:9; 14:9; 1 Cor. 12:3; Phil. 2:11) and his universal rule over all things on behalf of God (1 Cor. 15:25, 28; Rev. 1:5; 17:14). Lord is cited in the same verse as Jesus over 300 times in the New Testament. Jesus is called “Lord and Savior” in 2 Peter 1:11, 2:20, 3:2, and 3:18.
Since Jesus is our God, Lord, and Savior, trusting Him as your Savior goes hand-in-hand with submitting to Him as your Lord.
Conclusion
The eternal God who was there in the beginning, who created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, became a man who was crucified and died for your sins. He was buried. God raised Him from the dead on the third day.
Romans 3:23 – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 5:12 – “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.”
Romans 6:23 – “for the wages of sin is death…”
Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23 – “…but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 – “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”
Romans 10:9–10 – “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
John 5:24 – “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
Time is getting short. There is no other way.
